Dj Relic BIO:
Born and raised in the northern part of New Jersey, this 27 year old producer has paved his way in the hip hop Industry. His love for hip hop started at a young age while searching for an outlet to cope with complicated family life. At the age of 8 he was on stage performing hip hop songs at local talent shows and thru the years his love for the culture grew. Around age 14 he got into the graffiti scene but after catching charges in multiple towns he decided to put that behind him. His passion for the hip hop culture grew when he started listening to WKCR's Stretch and Bobbito show and finially realized he needed to be involved in the musicial aspect espicially since he comes from a family of all musicians. His mom toured in a band, his dad's a drummer, his grandma was doing musicials and his grandfather was selling instruments up and down the east coast for G. Schirmer. Growing up listening to Jazz had a heavy influence on him. As the years went by he spent a lot of time listening to music and then at the age of 15 he got a chance to work at Jerzewerx which later became Guerilla Records down in Boonton NJ. Being tought by incredibly talented djs like 2010 and CM Burns, they showed him the ins and outs of being a dj. Unfortunately the only hip hop record store in Jersey shut down but they got him his foot in the door to get his career going. With the help of Bangin' Productions he performed at spots like Parish Drive and Pseudo. After that he was entering dj battles and just getting heavily involved in the hip hop scene. He would go crate digging at spots like Princton Record Exchange, Kims Video, Fat Beats and Turntable Lab and also go to shows at Knitting Factory, SOBS and RockSteady.
As years went by, the culture started to get weaker and soon places were getting shut down and even the leading turntable manufacturer, Technic stopped making equipment. Now the new industry came to destroy what was left. Cd tables became a big part and the art of the culture was extinct. At that point he decided to go a different route and make music he wanted to hear. So around 2002 he was releasing his own music. Recording songs with friends just with a handheld mic and some instrumental vinyls, this was the start of a new beginning. For years he spent nearly everyday recording with friends in the state and networking to find new artists to work with. He linked up with artists like Reeleyez, Hyphen, Haze (RIP), NGC, Kaspa, Soun Kamp, SFR, etc.
As the time went on he realized he wanted to reach out to artists hes been listening to that might appreciate his style. Linking up and djing on stage with Pacewon and Block Mccloud and also workin in studios with Fuc That (Street Smartz) or Tame One (Artifacts), this NJ native has consistenly put out track after track for almost a decade. Hes worked with such artists as AZ, Shyheim, St. Laz, DV Alias Krhyst, Copywrite, Young Zee just to name a few. His work has also been featured on mixtapes with DJ Kay Slay, Dj Delz, Dame Grease and Big Mike. His music speaks for itself, having a signature sound that seperates himself from the cookie cutter hip hop image. If you havent had the pleasure to here some of his tracks nows the time to do so. Hes got a huge catalog of records with over 500 tracks recorded hes definetly something to look out for. His consistency of work and his intensely ambitious drive is whats going to make his music crush the competition. Dont sleep, DJ Relic, one of NJ's hardest producers.
