bd Mooney is a roots-rock musician from Nashville with a love for songwriting. Fellow songwriter Joyce Medlock of Hit Song Casa says, “bd is an amazing performer and writer with a unique voice.” bd’s solo album, Sunshine When It Rains, was released in 2012 by independent record label Walk The Earth Music. It is a collection of songs that he has written or co-written since moving to Nashville in 2000. In addition to songwriting, bd displays his versatility as a musician on the album by playing most instruments.
The title, Sunshine When It Rains, originates from the 3rd track, “The Devil Is Beating His Wife Again,” a remark that his grandmother makes if there is sunshine when it rains. bd explains, “It’s about always finding the positive side of everything.” From the opening line “In the silence of the night, I woke up from a dream” to the last “I’m coming home” this album combines heartfelt lyrics about everyday human emotions with roots-inspired rhythms. The result is bd Mooney’s own brand of expressive melodies, riffs, and hooks.
In addition to solo projects, bd currently performs and writes with indie rock band everlovinmind. In 2012 everlovinmind played at the Basement’s New Faces Night in Nashville. Other artists that bd has played with include Muddy King, J. Curly (former guitarist for Leon Russell) and Rodney King (songwriter and former musician with Waylon Jennings). Prior to moving to Nashville, bd was frontman/guitarist for the rock trio Soul Power. He got his start in the industry as bass player/vocalist for the popular Birmingham band, Hungerfield, in the nineties. bd has performed in a variety of venues across Alabama and Middle Tennessee.
