Brainchild of multi-instrumentalist David Melbye (from Los Angeles), Heavy Water Experiments has evolved from an eclectic range of avant-psychedelia into its current dark/heavy sound. Classic rock influences may abound, but so many media voices have never drawn comparisons to the same artists or group of artists—at least some testament to HWE’s uniqueness. HWE’s past recordings boast a substantial record of international praise, including a full-page color feature in Classic Rock Magazine. To date, Melbye’s former “mellifluous” approach to his vocals has been replaced by a much more aggressive style, juxtaposed with wordless female vocals. At the same time, he maintains his unusual incorporation of the 8-string bass, along with a 4-string bass, in order to achieve HWE’s thunderous sonority. This bold new sound is celebrated on the current album Philosopher Queen, on European heavy rock label Stone Stallion Rex.

“Mellifluous stoner rock.”
—Classic Rock Magazine

“The ability to coalesce so many obscure and wonderful influences into such a cohesive mixture requires a level of geek cred that borders on inhuman."
—LA Record

“These dudes have a couple of albums under their belt and some rave reviews to accompany them. But with this new sound they have lifted their heads from the somewhat 60's sounding Floyd meets Sabbath heavy psych to a more disorienting and solid fuzz meltdown. In my opinion their best material yet, and a direction I would love to see them explore further."
—Bad Acid Magazine (UK)

“Never clumsy enough to be mistaken for simple hard rock, never bland enough to please those that seek the new age as a refuge from the difficult, it is an invitation to let go, to ride the hallucination bare back, to get fierce, to go crazy...a LOT to discover here.”
—Next Big Thing (Germany)
