Patrick Cowden was playing drums in blues bands at the age of 17, having to stand outside in the back when not playing on stage. It was cool with him, because everyone wanted to hang in the alley anyway. Somehow he made it to NYC and started working as a roadie to earn a living and get his foot in the door. Patrick worked for Johnny Winter, Rick Derringer, Edgar Winter, Dan Hartman and the Smithereens. Working with Johnny often left Patrick in prestigious company, sitting in a hotel room in Munich, Germany with Muddy Waters or hanging with BB king at the Kool Jazz festival in London. He was still playing everyday at sound checks and at the rehearsal rooms before the band got there. One day Rick came in early and heard Patrick and said, "hey man, you got to go out and play!” then Rick picked up the guitar and they jammed for about an hour. Soon after that Patrick, as a drummer, got a record deal with his band, The Charlie Midnight Band. They toured with Joe Cocker. Rainbow and The Joe Perry Project. Through all of this Patrick became passionate about the guitar and learned what ever he could from all the guitar players he worked with. He has been playing guitar and writing songs ever since. But, the bottom line is Patrick just wants to play music. The name of his band is Ruby and the Snakes, which he has been using ( with an assortment of different players ) for over thirty years. Go and check him out!
