George Coleman Jr. and The Rivington Project / Bio

A native of New York City, George was 7 when Max Roach gave him his first set of drums. The background music of his childhood was set to the polished sound of his father, George (“Big George”) Coleman’s saxophone and the classic blues of his mother Gloria’s piano, organ and vocal work. The swing and sweat of his parents set the standard for “little” George’s musical efforts, and his hard work and talent are evident to the most casual listener. George has toured and/or recorded with Dakota Staton and Etta Jones, Cyrus Chestnut, Russell Malone, Harold Mabern, Hilton Ruiz, Benny Green, Charles McPherson, Charles Davis, Ray Bryant, Benny Powell, Mario Rivera, Gloria Coleman, Lou Donalson, and of course George Coleman Sr.
