Funeral Remain formed in April 2008 by three young musicians from Eleventh State High School (SMA 11) in West-Surabaya. They are Berly (Guitars), Wowok (Bass) and Rockhitis (Drums). They began to play and wrote songs. When the scene of 90′s Rock Music began to rise again, we more concern to form a band. Then we ask Dimas and Torz (ex-Shock N Confuse) into joining our band. We named our self Funeral Remain, which means that everything has it’s own thorn, even a beautiful rose. We play Rock music combined with Grunge, Heavy Metal, Psychedelic, Punk, and other alternative influences. During our very first rehearsals, we agreed to play some kind of Metal and Hardcore music (metalcore), but this style drastically changed and wouldn’t last long enough.
In the early career we also had a rhythm guitarist, Torz. Our first demo song titled Suicide Yesterday originally was a tribute song for Tunas Hijau Indonesia for their compilation. Tunas Hijau is a non-profit organization focusing on environment to prevent the earth crisis and raise the awareness to the society, especially for youth. One of their first movement called “Eco Youth”. Now Torz are still active in that organization and become the chairman. We wouldn’t forget where did we started, so this is where our story began.
Our first drummer, Rockhitis, was replaced by Fahmi in the mid October 2008. His replacement was mainly because a ‘different vision’ (later on, he joined another band, which also a close friend of ours). Torz also left the band because at that time he was already in a metalcore band, Conversion Anarchy. Both Rockhitis and Torz are still a good friends to us until now.
For the first rehearsal, we have a 4 track including: Suicide Yesterday, Yang Terbuang, Savior In The Light and Bosan. In mid 2009 we released 3 demo songs including those tracks (without Savior In The Light). This formation lasted for almost 3 years and in February 2012 Wowok left the band due to pursue cinematography career in Jakarta. We decided to continue the band with only 3 band members left. In this period, we played many gigs, especially in local Grunge Communities, with the help from Tamam as the bassist. He was previously the bassist of Metalcore band “Yesterday” along with our first drummer, Rockhitis.
The band went on hiatus during end-2012 to mid-2014 due to the activity of each members.
Nowadays, we’re still looking for our first label. In addition, we also preparing for our new songs, including the other demos. So, stay tunes with us if you want to get updated.
