Dirk Deafner (Dustin Lewis) is a House music producer and DJ with an affinity for many other musical genres. Dirk solely pinpoints his talents on Deep House, NuDisco (or Disco House) and Downtempo music. He tends to create music focused in these genres, or combine elements of them, creating his own genre titled 'Hybrid House'. So, it's no wonder the moniker 'The Hybrid of House Music' matches Dirk Deafner and his preferences in his music creation. But how did all of this come about you ask?
At a younger age, Dustin was very into video games and video game design, but as he grew older, the music within those games more so grabbed his attention, later building his inspiration to work in music. He started listening to hip hop and R&B, but later was influenced by jazz and funk courtesy of his mother’s taste in music. Listening to various versions of techno, trance, drum and bass, breakbeat, and other forms of electronica solidified Dustin’s reasoning for wanting to get into music; his take was to conform all of these forms of music into one, creating an epic musical listening experience for the listener.
Dustin’s musical sensibility grew while he was in the Armed Forces, immensely surrounding himself around different people and being influenced by the music that they listened to. His involvement in music suddenly became quite clear: Dustin felt that music can either enhance an existing emotion within someone, or change their feelings and emotions from one to the other. And that was the final reasoning as to why Dustin wanted to eventually make a career within music. After exiting the Active Army in December of 2007, Dustin decided to move from his hometown of Chesapeake, Virginia to the sunny new life in Los Angeles, California to pursue education within the music field and eventually make a career out of it in the music/entertainment industry. Dustin entered the land of dreams and possibilities and continued to be motivated to make his musical ideas come to fruition.
Later on, Dustin begin to listen to deep house music, with his first cd purchase of Naked Music Recordings' Bare Essentials Vol.2. This type of music influenced Dustin immensely as well, causing him to make a huge 180-degree turnaround on his production. As time passed on, Dustin began to listen to other types of house music, congregating at various EDM events and drowning himself within the house music/EDM culture. What Dustin saw within the culture was that, unlike other genres, there was a huge prominence of positivity within the culture. This type of music had a tendency to bring together people of all ages, races, and genders together for one purpose and one purpose only: To dance and to have a good time, regardless of the day's worries and negativeness.
With his use of real and electronic drums and instruments, followed by groovy basslines and soft and/or aggressive synth styles, Dirk Deafner plans to not only think outside of the box, but take his whole well being out of it musically. House music brought 'The Dirk' into its world, and he doesn't plan on leaving it anytime soon....
Dirk Deafner is currently working on various projects and is also a contributing writer on various blogs, continuing to grow exponentially within everything he does and touches.
