Andy Allen is a Los Angeles based jazz double-bass player. He grew up in London, England where his mother was a music teacher. He took piano lessons from age four, played Bassoon in youth orchestras and chose Bass at 15. He toured Europe playing jazz-fusion and moved to New York City in 1990. In 2000 he moved to Los Angeles, where he plays in small ensembles, big bands, theater productions and scoring sessions. He plays regularly with guitarist Paul Weitz, pianist Mika Krstic (with whom he recently recorded a CD) and vocalists Joel Porter and Rachel Sorsa Khoury. His influences range from solid sidemen Sam Jones and Peter Washington to lyrical soloists Jay Leonhart and John Patitucci He presently studies with bass guru Putter Smith.
