Adjoa Skinner / Bio

Adjoa Skinner is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist & song writer based in Los Angeles, CA. Born into a family of musicians in Buffalo, NY. Skinner started in Musical Theatre at the age of 2, went on to be a session vocalist at the age of 7, and by 12 was the featured vocalist in local Jazz Ensembles.
After studying classical voice voce in New York choirs with some of the country's best vocal professors she went on to live in East, South and West Africa for nearly 2 years where she received the name Adjoa and helped pioneer a school of Music as a student and a professor, teaching private lessons in voice, piano, & flute.
In the past 5 1/2 years while living in Los Angeles and pursuing music full time as a songwriter, Adjoa was awarded, SoCal Acoustic Music Female Finalist (receiving the highest scores of the entire competition in 2008). That same year she was a recipient of the Sapere Artist Grant with some of the country's finest performing artists including "The Daylights" "Brooke Waggoner" "The Civil Wars", The following year she was sent to music direct and perform in front of 30,000 people on christmas day in Singapore City, Singapore.
Yes an audience of 30,000. All after playing in a tiny coffee shop in Pasadena. But it was after playing at that tiny coffee shop weekly that she was asked to be the opening act for four months for the upcoming band "Carney" at Molly Malones in downtown Los Angeles. Reeve Carney (Carney's lead singer) is now playing Peter Parker in Broadway's Spiderman. In Oct 2011 Adjoa's lyrics were performed in front of the King, Queen & Prime Minister of Norway in their National Opera House by Norwegian Tenor Torstein Sodal accompanied by an orchestra and choir. She was asked by Torstein to write the lyrics to Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46 "Morning Mood" by Edvard Grieg.
Studying and crafting her work Adjoa returned to the studio for session work and writing with various music producers, engineers, and composers including, *Charlie Peacock (Switchfoot, Amy Grant, The Civil Wars), *Mateo Messina (Composer for Juno), Greg Maloney (Danny Elfman), Satoshi Noguchi (Hans Zimmer), Robb Leo (Rick Ruben), Kevin Dippold (Smashing Pumpkins) and more.

In September of 2012 "The Recession Song" Music Video was released featuring performances by The SoleVita Dance Company in Hollywood, CA. At the close of 2012 Adjoa went on a National solo tour tap dancing, playing and singing her way for 15,000 miles. In that time she performed at the world Famous "Birdland with tap dancer Andrew Nemr (Ted Fellow / founder Cats Paying Dues) and with the up and coming sister band - "Shel" and in her home town with Buffalo Music Hall of Famers Joe Rozler & Armand Petri. She will be performing at The Grammy Museum in January 2013 competing in the "Be Heard Artist Showcase".
