"Throw any kind of descriptors at La Guerrilla – Latin rock, funk, pop, soul, hip-hop – and they'll all stick. But probably the best way to convey what the genre-bending six-piece sounds like is to put it this way: it's a band where members who individually love Gogol Bordello, Björk, Flaming Lips, At the Drive In and Chico Mann can feel at home with one another." - Chad Swiatecki, Austin American Statesman
What is LA GUERRILLA?...."David byrne on acid", or "A big-band caravan led by transcontinental hustler Enrique Rumiche", or better "La Guerrilla's (like The Clash) combat rock en Español". Maybe, "reminiscent of Gogol Bordello the vocal diversity of singer Enrique Rumiche employs the late spirit of Sublime frontman, Brad Nowell ". Or how about, "La Guerilla pulls from the ska-pop of Sublime, the gypsy punk of Gogol Bordello, and Mano Negra's Patchanka". Perhaps, "The frontman's Eugene Hütz-esque accent to an Argentine swagger recalling Los Fabulosos Cadillacs". Or did they mean "busks with the simple sincerity of Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records". Anyway, LA GUERRILLA has been called a LOT!
Really how do you call a guy who tells musicians, artists, beginners, and pros he meets on craigslist, at random parties, or bars, even members of other bands to jump in onstage and start playing his crazy Latin Funk World Ska songs? And add to that singing these songs in SPANGLISH?! If there is a definition for such an endeavor, then that's LA GUERRILLA. A safe haven for all artists at all levels, a jumping board for those who want to get experience, a collective of artistic ideas, a growth, call it what you want as long as the words mix, Fusion, World, Fun, Powerful, and International are in there make your own definition.
Reminiscent of one man projects ala Foo Fighters, or NIN, this is more than a solo project, in fact with every lineup at any given time LA GUERRILLA receives, showcases, and shares the amazing vibes, and talents of those musicians who make it the most versatile project ever! Call it a long recruitment process for a band, but it has made LA GUERRILLA into what it is now. An ongoing World Troubadors Collective led by a Latino Transcontinetal Hustler.
Originated in Austin, TX, circa 2009; as the sole songwriter, singer, and guitarist he is responsible for the direction of this International Collective. Influenced by Manu Chao, Arcade Fire, The Clash, and many unknown local bands he met on tours. Rumiche started his project with a simple Roland beatbox and his acoustic guitar. Placing adds on craigslist, meeting musicians at parties and open mics, he started adding more instruments to his repertoire.
The band has released 2 E.P.'s with much success in the Central Texas region.
Internationally, their second EP "Adios Lala Land?" has Worldwide, Mexican, and Colombian blogs such as bestfestivals.net and about.com feature La Guerrilla articles, reviews, and music. Moreover, their first EP "La guerrilla" got the attention of NPR radio, where their single "Ganas no me faltan" is featured on the NPR Latin Alternative show.
They have shared the stage with Ozomatli, George Clinton and P Funk, Filter, Plastilina Mosh's Rosso, Federico Aubuele, Kinky Friedman, and more.
