Lilan Kane is a professional singer and private music teacher in the Bay Area. She has performed in major cities around the US including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Boston, and internationally in France and St. Lucia. She has been featured on Time Warner Cable Manhattan, Berkeley's KPFA 94.1, and KTHX 100.1 in Nevada.
This Bay Area soul singer graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where she studied voice with Grammy award winning singer/arranger Donna McElroy and bandleading with drummer/arranger Kenwood Dennard. After earning a degree in Music Business, she relocated to NYC, working in the music industry at a major and independent record label, and also assisting jazz promotion company Revive Music Group. She also fronted the New Orleans style band the Funky Fritters as well as performing solo shows.
Growing up in the Bay Area, Lilan sang in her church choir, as well as middle and high school choirs. She was a member of the award winning teen a cappella group 'Til Dawn. She spent a semester abroad studying in France where she sang with the jazz group Bog'Indigo. Upon returning to the states, she founded a directed a middle school girls choir for two years before leaving for Boston. Some of the members went on to attend Marin School of the Arts, Berklee, USC, NYU, and one was featured on MTV's "Rock the Cradle."
After New York, Lilan returned to her roots in the Bay Area and joined blues band Whiskey Hill, soon after forming the Lilan Kane Blues Band. As a featured performer, Lilan has entertained audiences at several notable Bay Area venues and internationally in France, Mexico, and St. Lucia. Recently, she has been seen fronting the Stax tribute band OTIS and soul band the Droptones. Sticking with her a cappella roots, Lilan is the current alto in Ro Sham Bo, the 2013 Regional Harmony Sweepstakes champions. Currently, Lilan is working on her debut album of original tunes.
In the community, Lilan is an established music teacher in both Marin County and Palo Alto. She found her passion for teaching and mentoring aspiring singers at an early age after studying voice and piano privately and has been a professional music educator for the past nine years. She is the Assistant Director and instructor at Palo Alto’s Summer Rock Camp and she is the co-founder and director of singing camp Own The Mic in Marin. She has taught at San Domenico School, Performing Arts Academy of Marin, and Barbizon Modeling School.
