Kory Murphy is an independent folk artist based in the Midwest. His music has been shaped by many months spent on the road living out of suitcases in Europe, Canada, and the United States. His music blends the intimacy of heartfelt acoustic music with the energy of an indie rock band. Kory is currently in Wisconsin recording his self-produced second album. The album will be released in 2014.
Kory has performed his original music at various venues and music festivals. He has worked along side skilled musicians from all across the globe, as well as recording engineers Billy Triplett and Steve Hamilton. He has performed in diverse settings ranging from street corners to large concert halls. Kory performs and tours both as a solo artist, as well as being backed by his band.
After growing up in small Midwestern towns, Kory left his childhood home to pursue his music career in Nashville, Tennessee. During his years there, he developed his own unique sound and style while simultaneously working as a studio musician and touring in numerous bands. He continued to travel and relocated to Europe for a winter before making his move to Wisconsin. He describes his time on the road as one of the most important and inspiring experiences of his life.
Kory Murphy's music has often been described as intimate, heartfelt, and energetic, featuring a distinct vocal style and dreamlike melodies. His songs occasionally make use of subtle string arrangements, slide guitars, looping, and keyboards behind his rich guitar tone to create lush ambient textures.
Kory's second album will be released in 2014 on Amalie Records. The release will be followed by an acoustic tour of the United States in the fall.
