Ira Watkins Music / Bio

IRA SOUL BIOGRAPHY:

Pittsburgh used to be known for Steel Production but in the last couple years, Pittsburgh artists

have emerged to turn the Steel City into and Gold City. With the success of Wiz Khalifa and

Mac Miller achieving Gold Status Sales of their music (500,000 units sold) and propelling

Pittsburgh Hip-Hop Music into the National Mainstream. Pittsburgh has now another new artist

that’s ready to carry the torch his name is Ira Soul, an R&B artist is determined to put the

spotlight on Pittsburgh’s R&B sound. With many artists simply following the latest sound and

trends in music Ira Soul has deviated from that pattern and established himself as a Premier

upcoming R&B artist in Pittsburgh. His new debut album Soulful Hip-Hop is a melodic blend of

R&B grooves flavored with Hip Hop seasoning.

Ira Soul was born in Pittsburgh’s East side in 1984 and as a young child began listening to

music particularly thanks to his grandfather Ira says “Music has been in my blood since I was

around 7 years old. When my grandfather was in the army, he played a lot of jazz instruments

such as the trumpet, saxophone, drums, and trombone”. His grandfather was influenced by

great jazz musicians such as Louis Armstrong and Count Basie. "At an early age I listened to a

lot of R&B artist like Al B Sure, Keith Sweat, Michael Jackson and the late great Luther

Vandross These stars influenced me to sing as well as write songs” Ira explains

Ira has won the 2011 Pittsburgh Hop-Hip Awards and Performed at the 2011/12 Annual Black

Family Reunion Show, August Wilson Center in Pittsburgh and most recently RPM’s nightclub in

Bridgeville Pa Ira has steadily grown a fanbase in Pittsburgh area, and has recorded 1 album

and 1 mixtape and has hooked up with local music producer Xeno (pronounced z-no) and

signed on to Pittsburgh independent label Listen Now Records. “Ira is a true gem to work with

because he understands what he wants musically and is determined to make it happen, by

surrounding himself with Team of producers, engineers and musicians” says Don Gibbs CEO of

Listen Now Records.

This focus has allowed Ira to write some of his songs on his debut album Soulful Hip Hop. From

the opening riff of “Should have never let me go” Ira cruises vocally the album’s first single. Ira

initiates his musical writing skills from the opening snare and kick on the danceable song

”Switchin” one can hear Ira vocal sincerity on delivering an industry standard sound to get any

dance floor moving. Don explains, “Switchin” has received airplay in the local clubs so far, and

we are steadily building the buzz from there.” Ira is able to switch gears on the mid-tempo song

“It’s Over and done” Ira delivers for any musical fan looking for a cross between Chris Brown

and Trey Songz. Ira just doesn’t sing the songs he inhabits them and lives them out; the album

is 41 minutes of Ira Soul’s Musical R&B Journey.

Ira is currently in the Studio working on new material for his second album titled My Pupose to

succeed and getting to ready to go on the road this summer Ira says “ I have done numerous

performances from high school talents shows to live performances in cities such as Youngstown

Oh and back home to Pittsburgh. I got a chance to meet Rufus Blaq who's an in house producer

for National Recording Artist Marques Houston and his label TUG Entertainment." As of right

now Ira is working hard in continuing Pittsburgh transformation form Steel City into Gold City.
