Generous Alzir started in the summer of 2008 when Mark James (vocals guitar and harmonica) wrote an indie/folk-rock inspired concept album titled “Compromise”. James began playing solo under the name Generous Alzir and was soon joined by Tyler Caldwell (drums), Andrew Silverston (bass and back vocals) and Torrey Carren (guitar and backing vocals) in order to fill out their sound… The band played roughly four shows on the Sunset Strip at venues like The Rainbow Room and Whiskey-a-go-go before taking a year off to write and record their upcoming album Great Walls.
Generous Alzir made their official start as a band in Jaunary of 2010 and played their first show as a full band at The Gypsy Lounge in Lake Forest. Since their official start, the band has played at venues all over Orange County including Proof, Detroit Bar, The Blue Café, and Continental Room. At the end of May the band played alongside popular locals: Yellow Red Sparks, Morgan from The Whispertown2000, and Jameson in an indie/folk-rock event hosted by I Promote Good Bands called Happy Birthday Bob Dylan. Generous Alzir is currently being played on many local stations including KUCI’s Press Pass Music hosted by Ashley Eliot.
In the Summer of 2010 the band went their separate ways, but James still continues to write and perform under the name Generous Alzir. In early 2011 one of Generous Alzir’s songs entitled “Fate” was used in the independent film “Letting Go” directed by Jake Torem.
Currently, Generous Alzir is working on its second full length album entitled Great Walls.
