Pianist, arranger, composer, and producer Demetrius “Krayon” Nabors was born and raised in Detroit. Krayon’s musical journey started at the age of 13 while in church. While attending church, he experienced a diverse atmosphere of music presentations. That diversity influenced Krayon to fall in love with gospel, jazz, and blues. He is a well-traveled artist as he has played in churches, local venues, and arenas both nationally and internationally.
Krayon’s journey has been blessed with many accomplishments and plateaus. In the summer of 2010 he was one of 35 international jazz composers chosen to study at Columbia University in Manhattan for the Jazz Composers Orchestra Institute. Krayon is a proud winner of the 2011 and 2012 Detroit Music Award in the category of
Outstanding Gospel/Christian Musician.
In the midst of his musical journey, he continued to pursue one of his dreams at the academia level. Krayon completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Jazz Studies in April 2011 from the University of Michigan. In addition, Krayon will be completing his studies in the spring of 2013 pursuing a Master’s Degree in Improvisation at his alma mater.
Krayon has worked with notable artists such as Kem, Tim Bowman, Randy Scott, Alexander Zonjic, Darren Rahn, Nate Harasim, Phil Denny, Keith Washington, JMoss, Kindred the Family Soul, CeCe Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Gordon Chambers, and many others.
His debut album entitled, "A Journey Within Part 1" debuted on Smooth Jazz Billboard at #21 in 2012!
As the journey continues, Krayon will continue to use his God given gifts to bless others. With all of his faith in God's plan for his life - he is destined for greatness.
