Russ Hopkins / Bio

Hopkins style has been described as: “Americana/folk rock sound... earthy undertones flow throughout his pieces, creating an old Western ambiance. His poetic lyrics combine with beautiful harmonies and melodies rich with acoustic honesty, transporting listeners to a different time. His hauntingly beautiful, deeply rich voice reminds you of Johnny Cash circa “Hurt.” In a world filled with bubbly pop and club remixes, it’s refreshing to find honest lyrics presented in a way that makes listeners reflect on themselves.” Crystal Campbell - Coloradoan

Hopkins grew up on Long Island in New York to a home full of music. His grandfather was a professional musician during the great depression before W.W.II. Hopkins picked up a guitar in his teens, inspired by Neil Young, Bob Dylan, the Beatles and the Moody Blues. After his college degree and film school studies Hopkins performed his music in clubs before settling in Colorado to run a recording studio and label called Kiva Records. Some of the artists Hopkins has recorded include: Odetta, Michael Hedges, Dave Matthews Band, Al Stewart, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jesse Colin Young, David Bromberg, The Roaches, Tom Paxton, Eric Anderson…

Hopkins has performed internationally on three continents, and on stage with John Sebastian (Lovin' Spoonful) and John McEuen (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band).
