Blanche formed after the break up of Toronto-based Canadian art-rock indie band Anyhowtown (AHT) in 1996. Singer/songwritier Daphne Diamant and drummer Derek Gassyt teamed with D. Peter Hudson (ex-Dundrells and producer of all three Anyhowtown releases) on guitars, and Darren Whalen on bass to create the acclaimed indie release Companion. WTSD, Fade and Glossette featured in heavy rotation on college and commercial radio and the band took to the road to tour the album across Canada and the states, including showcases at SXSW, CMJ and NMS. Blanche added the talents of Patrick Corbett (keys), Stef Caunter (bass) and producer Sean Richards (ex tour/sound for Ron Sexsmith, Metric, Shonen Knife, Black Eyed Peas) for their sophomore effort, an eight song CD (unreleased), with stand out tracks, Baby Absolute and Prince 1 as highlights. Side projects include: co-writing and vocals with Vince Clarke of Erasure for the concept CD 'Wonderful' by Family Fantastic; and collaborative live performances with Peaches in Toronto. Blanche relocated to the UK in 1999.
