Erin and Ben are a relatively recent addition to the music scene but their musical compatibility travels far back in time and was evident from the first time they met in the early 2000s. Prior to their union, Ben played bass in the hard core band “Union” and toured the upper north east while attending SUNY Buffalo from 1994-1998. After taking a hiatus, Ben changed gears and became rhythm guitarist for a local Long Island rock-pop band “The Courdoroys” from 2004-2007.
Erin had dabbled here and there in the late 2000s, picking up the guitar and then banjo. Her unique picking style evolved over time, as did Ben and Erin’s own style of music, influenced by their many nights listening to and playing music together. It wasn’t until one magical afternoon in the summer of 2012, hanging out in their living room, picking away, that they officially took on their identity as “Twiddlin’ Thumbs.”
Their style evolved with time and eventually, they decided to bring their craft to the public as Twiddlin’ Thumbs in May 2013. Since then they have been playing regularly in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Jersey City.
They finally put it all together in the Fall of October 2014 when they rented an old barn up in the Berkshires and recorded their debut album “Blowin’ Smoke”; a simple yet honest reflection of their marriage of lyric and melody. It is a modest account of their playful style that marry elements of Americana, folk, blues and a drop of bluegrass.
“Twiddlin’ Thumbs personify the new wave of the Americana revival. Their original songs marry classic rural themes with modern urban sensibility. These Jersey City Heights residents love having a good time playing folky, bluesy tunes."
