Whether leaving Atlanta’s underground rock temples smoldering like the Masquerade and rocking the very foundation of major venues like Center Stage Atlanta or boldly venturing into new territory like Orlando’s House of Blues; Nutbush is constantly expanding their fan base exponentially.
Front man Detonatae “Soulchild” Thomas drives their strong tracks with very grounded and rich tenor vocals that smack the back wall of every venue they rattle. The southwest ATL native belts out his uniquely introspective lyrics with a haunting power that commands respec t and attention from anyone in earshot.
Raised in the church with a strong foundation in music; Soulchild’s uncle, Alfred “AT” Thomas, was a drummer for the godfather of soul himself: James Brown. This background laid Soulchild’s musical foundation, which started with piano then leading to drums and bass. All the while, he honed his vocal, writing, arranging and production skills which have manifested Nutbush’s most anticipated project to date: Radiocity garnering an unprecedented level of attention.
With a crack outfit of musicians whom are every bit as serious about the craft as Soulchild is; Nutbush has earned all of their major festival appearances which include Music Midtown (one of the biggest music festivals in the southeast), the National Black Arts Festival, Atlanta Blues & International Fest and the Heineken Music Showcase to name a few.
The band Nutbush has created one of the most powerful, charismatic and energetic, live rock shows in the south. The live show is where one begins to appreciate the energy of these sonic warriors who don’t complain about the lack of black faces in rock they merely live by their mantra: “ BE THE CHANGE THAT YOU WANT TO SEE!!!
