Conceptualized and shaped in the year 2009, Bhairav is a Vedic metal trio, fueled by extreme reverence for Lord Shiva and immense ardour for Old School Metal music. Extolling the virtues of Vedic philosophy and integrating those into a contemporary metal articulation, the band evinces a discernible novelty in their approach towards the otherwise so popular form of music. Incepted as a four piece outfit, the band also witnessed a series of line up and configuration changes and currently is unwavering with its three components - Saurabh Babbar (Guitars and Backing Vocals), Shivam Gautom (Drums) and Chaitanya Awasthi (Bass and Vocals).
The torchbearers of Vedic Metal in India, Bhairav brings round Vedic Metal (Hail the mighty Rudra) in line with classical Thrash/Extreme metal scene of the 80's, as laid down by famed mammoths like Slayer, Kreator, Sepultura, Metallica, Megadeth, Sodom, Holy Moses, Coroner, Exumer etc.
Early influences of the Gods of Extreme Metal and their obsession for antediluvian Hindu Mythologizes bloomed to define the characteristic shred sound of the band, which is an amalgamation of 80's Old School Metal and Indian classical music, mainly in terms of scales. Experimenting with different musical tones, the band occasionally issues various ethnic percussion instruments into their music to present a rustic Indian flavor.
Lyrically, the band is magnetized by various concepts of Vedic philosophy and many aspects of Indian mythology, which seem to perfectly blend in a style of music as heavy as theirs. The name itself signifies the band's roots, as ‘Bhairav’ is one of the Indian classical raagas, as well as the name of the fiercest manifestation of Lord Shiva.
In the past two years, the band has been quite active in the underground metal circuit in Delhi and received both critical and commercial success. The band has started branching out its creative milieu and earned mainstream recognition by performing in sundry spheres. After having found its musical direction, the band has been working on original material and is now ready to take on the stage, looking for opportunity to present their unique approach towards music in front of all.
