Naptown born Chicago soul/jazz musician trying to do something good. What you might like to know about me:
1. I come from a very cool, hard working, God fearin', loving and supportive musical family.
2. I went to Indiana University, quit, played keys and sang in a couple indie bands, moved to Chicago, worked some odd jobs over the 2000's like meat wrapping at Wild Oats, McDonalds (specifically the register and the violent McFlurry machine), waited tables at some good and not so good places, TA'd, telemarketed, hallmarked, attempted clothing retail at Anthropologie for exactly 8 days, and finished a music degree in vocal performance at Columbia College where I met and sang with great musicians.
3. I somehow fell into singing and learning about jazz, although I grew up singing gospel and my training is in classical music...and I love singing r&b, pop, funk, gospel, indie, you name it. I've made a modest living mostly singing/playing mostly jazz and r&b since 2009, but I do a bunch of other kinds of music too and really do not like trying to label exactly what kind of singer I am. I was a semi finalist in the Thelonious Monk vocal competition in 2010, and I won first and public prize in the Shure Montreux Jazz Voice competition in 2011. It was a very nice feather in my cap and a boost of motivation to do something more. I'll be releasing my first original full length album summer 2013.
4. I love celebrating and embracing differences, making friends, and I love the art of the human interaction. I love performing for this very reason and I know this is my life's work. L-O-V-E in the end is what I'm talking bout people.
