Ava Suppelsa is an 18 year old singer/songwriter from Evanston, Illinois. Her music is a blend of folk, pop and country with hints of jazz. Some would describe it as "James Taylor meets Norah Jones in the country." Despite her young age, Ava has already begun making a name for herself in the Chicago area. She began to play and write her own music at the age of twelve and began performing it live shortly after. In 2013, Ava snagged a coveted spot in the second year of the Interlochen Arts Academy Singer/Songwriter program. Since then, Ava has been at the Interlochen Arts Academy furthering her writing and performance skills, while still performing on the side. She has an extensive list of performances, including Club Nokia in Los Angeles, The New World Center in Miami, Hard Rock Cafe Chicago, and the WGN Chicago Radio and Morning News. She has also been an opener for popular indie singer/songwriter Andrew Belle and Grammy Nominee Hunter Hayes.
2014 was a big year for Ava. She was selected as a Young Arts Finalist, a national arts competition- one of the 170 finalists chosen out of 11,000 applicants, and one of the 6 selected singer/songwriters. It was a honor for her to win and got the chance to work with legendary artists such as Josh Groban, Chris Young and Desmond Child. Only weeks after, Ava was chosen as a winner of the Michigan Music Educators Association Composition Competition for her original compositions among Michigan's best young composers.
In June of 2014, Ava was selected to attend the Grammy Foundation Camp to study songwriting with the best teachers in the industry. Months later, she was invited back to be apart of the Grammy Alumni Band to play a show in Los Angeles, California during the official Grammy Week. She shared the stage at Club Nokia with Grammy Award Nominee, Hunter Hayes in February, 2015. The following summer of 2015, she was accepted again to Grammy Camp and attended the camp in Brooklyn, New York to study songwriting.
Ava was accepted into the prestigious Berklee College of Music and is currently a student there studying songwriting, performance and business. She is in the process or recording an EP that will be released this year, and continues writing and playing shows across Chicago and Boston.
