Earth Rhythm, originally Indigo, was founded in 1988 when keyboardist Roger Nettler and guitarist Andrew Rudin were introduced to vocalist/bassist Carl Rainone and drummer, Greg Ferrone. The following year, after playing a variety of clubs on Long Island, NY, Ferrone left the band due to artistic differences. After a long search, he was replaced by drummer Stephen Umanski. Around the same time, the band had decided to bring on bassist, Tommy Sforza, allowing Rainone to focus solely on his vocals. However, a case of cold-feet caused Umanski to back out a week before his first gig. Fortunately, a long- time playing mate of Sforzas’, Ray Balz, was available, and fit in like an old glove (or shoe). After about 2 years of successfully playing clubs around NYC and Long Island, Earth Rhythm disbanded as Rudin decided to move to Chicago while Nettler sought to put together a band featuring him on Guitar (which never happened....).
