Kristóf Waltermire / Bio

Armed with a pocket full of original tunes he calls “ammunition” and a lyrical bite so strong it could stop a
stampede, Arkansas-bred singer/songwriter Kristof Waltermire is a southern force to be reckoned with… Melding neo-traditional country sounds with alt-country and radio-style Americana, Kristof has created a formula that is
familiar yet unpredictable. At the crossroads where his former New York City address meets his Little Rock
state of mind, he proudly stands as a true testament to the phrase, “You can take the boy out of the south, but
you can never take the south out of the boy.”
Growing up in Arkansas, Kristof moved to New York City in 1996 to pursue a career in theatre, but always
held onto the dream of being a singer/songwriter. Years later, and in the middle of a successful career as a
stage performer, he started exploring the possibility of that dream by playing a few open mic nights around
Manhattan. “My very first open mic, I played a couple of original songs. And I was nervous unlike ever before.
By the end of my set, there was a bar full of people yelling for more… I didn’t have any more! That’s when I
knew I had a lot of work to do.” This work would soon find Kris back in Arkansas and reconnecting with an old
family friend - Grammy award-winning music icon, Al Bell (co-founder of Memphis’ Stax Records and former
President of Motown Records). Under Bell’s wing, Kristof discovered and honed in on a sound that would define
him in the songs to come. “I haven’t been this excited about an artist since Marvin Gaye!” says Bell. “[He’s a]
great songwriter [that is] already ahead of the game.” Kris took this encouragement, along with Bell’s passed
down knowledge of personal growth and its connection to artistry, and has turned it into his upcoming
release. With songs like “Should Know Better” and “This Beautiful Lie,” he shows his flair for autobiographical
revelation. “Them Ghosts,” “Where I’ll Be” and “Turn This Hurt Around” are examples of Kristof’s love of candor
and confession. The contagious swing of “Texas on my Mind” and “Running from Lonesome” pays homage to
country music’s traditional sounds, while the heavy-hitting “In the Backseat” shows off his rugged “red dirt”
The buzz surrounding Kristof landed him a weekly residency at New York City’s famous Kenny’s
Castaways, where club owner Maria Kenny herself offered the spot with much praise. In 2009, his first EP
Wonderland was receiving regular rotation on New York University’s WNYU. In 2010, his songs “Should Know
Better” and “Austin” received airplay on Nashville’s NBRN and Little Rock’s KABF 88.3. The summer of 2010
found him headlining a weekly residency in Spike Hill Tavern’s Sunday Night Sinner’s Club in Brooklyn where a
rapidly growing fan base make him a household name in New York City’s Concrete Country scene. In May of
2011, Rockethub.com got wind of Kristof and invited him to be a part of their live artist showcase at New York
City’s legendary venue, The Living Room. After his highly energetic set, notables and fans were so impressed
that Rockethub, in partnership with Gibson Guitars, included him on their first featured artist compilation disc
as one of the “Twelve Most Influential Artists” to look out for.
Kristof moved back to Arkansas in 2012 to expand his musical presence in the south. Within a couple of
months, he increased his fan base after an original acoustic take on Wayland Holyfield’s “Arkansas, You Run
Deep in Me” at the “Curtain Call for a Cause” fundraiser for Arkansas Enterprises for the Developmentally
Disabled Inc. Two months later, during a private party for country legend Glen Campbell, a chance meeting
with Show-Dog Universal Records’ president, Mark Wright, found Kristof gaining the immediate attention of one
of Nashville’s most prominent record labels.
Today, Kristof is on a mission and spends his time working like a musical machine to better his live shows
and bring his east coast and southern fan bases together as one. For some of these fans, Kristof and his sound
belong right alongside the voices that personify the mainstream pop-country flavor of Nashville. To others, his
songs ride shotgun with the honest and rugged singer/songwriters of the Texas “red dirt” scene. For Kristof…
well, he’s happy to be sitting on the fence, comfortably nestled between the two scenes. “Nothing makes me
happier than when a fan comes up to me after a show and tells me that they never liked country-sounding
music until they heard me. In my eyes, this is the biggest of compliments.
