“Kelowna’s Honest Woods has had an excellent year. The folk influenced indie-rock band has generated some significant local buzz, becoming one of the most talked about acts in town.”
- Vincent Jones, entertainment columnist of Kelowna Now web column.
Honest Woods’ music is entwined with aspects of many different genres, including those mentioned above, which have enabled them to create their own unique sound. Defined by their striking harmonies, energetic performances, and modest members, Honest Woods perform with the hopes of connecting with others through music.
Members include vocalist and acoustic guitarist Annie Scott, vocalist and lead guitarist Dustin McGifford, and drummer Joshua Ertman.
Although Honest Woods intend to stay true to their duo roots, with strong influences from bands such as The Civil Wars, the accompanying rhythm section provides a powerful influence over their live performances by completing the full band experience.
After only a year of calling themselves Honest Woods, things began to progress quickly for the dynamic duo and their musical careers. Their original song “Shy” placed them in the top 20 regional finals of the CBC Searchlight Competition after also being featured on the Shaw TV’s broadcast show of local talent “The Seen”.
Most recently, Honest Woods accomplished first place in the Talented Kelowna Competition 2014 as a full band and are currently working on their first professional EP. Looking back on the finals of the competition Jennifer Smith, entertainment columnist of The Capital newspaper Kelowna says, Honest Woods "managed to evening of impressive performances and turn their moment to shine into an experience audience and performers alike could share".
Honest Woods will be releasing their EP in June and look forward to sharing their music with everyone this summer.
