Noel comes from Strabane in County Tyrone and was born into a musical family. At an early age, Noel settled on playing cornet but also tried his luck on trumpet and flugelhorn. In 1997, Noel was given the position of Principal cornet with St. Joseph's Brass Band until 2006.
In 2006, Noel became Musical Director of St.Josephs and has had a period of unparalleled success, winning 4 national titles and 4 Conductor accolades.
Noel has also been the Musical Director of various stage/music productions, such as ‘Brassed Off’,‘Traditions Meet’ and ‘The North Wind Blows’, he has also produced several musical arrangements for bagpipes and brass and wind .
In 2012 Noel was commissioned to arrange music for the ‘Big Flame’ as part of the 2012 Olympic Celebrations, and most recently, he has had 2 compositions accepted by a major recording Studio.
In December 2012, Noel was awarded the post of Director of Music for The 2013 Walled City Tattoo. This was a great privilege for Noel and he enthused, "The Walled City Tattoo is one of the highlights of the 2013 UK City of Culture 2013 and I am very honoured and humbled to have been chosen as MD for this event. The scale of the event is huge and is a major challenge, but one I feel ready to meet. I promise the public, they are in for a spectacular show of Music and Dance that will leave them wanting to come back for more." The 2013 Walled City Tattoo was a fantastic success and Noel came out with many accolades for the work he did in preparing the musicians, arranging music for Brass, Wind, Choir, Pipes and Drums and Composing the opening fanfare. As a result of this, Noel has been asked to MD the 2014 Walled City Tattoo in August 2014. Noel is once again proud to have been selected for this prestigious post at this wonderful event and feels it is recognition, for the work he put into the previous years event and his contribution to its success.
