Dartgun and the Vignettes, Portland's own psychedelic punk rock doo-wop group, delivers deviant love songs, defiant diatribes, and guitar-driven velveteen chaos. Taunting and beautifully obnoxious, the sound is like anarchy at the roller rink.
Dartgun was formed in 2004 by Portland native Chuck Thrust, the guitar-bashing Sermonator, lead vocalist, and songwriter for the group. Bass player Chad Did It's smooth clank combined with Thrust's jagged chop to create the core of the Dartgun trio. In 2007, Dartgun introduced the Vignettes: backup singers Christine, Dana T., and Kat Aklysm. These three ladies serve up taming tones and haunting hymns to balance the bombast and secure the spectacle.
This year, the band has revamped its lineup to include hard-rocking Pi Venus Winslow III on drums, the psychedelic keyboards of Dr. Bob Fountain, and, on lead guitar, the sweet stylings of Jarrod “Doubles” Schneyer.
One reviewer wrote, “Their unique mix of soul sister vocals and brit-fluence punk came off as one of the freshest things I've heard in years...Controlling the stage like a power crazed dictator, Chuck Thrust boldly captured the audience and led us to the brink of fanaticism. All the while tempered with the beautiful vocal melodies of the Vignettes.”
Dartgun and the Vignettes are featured on the compilation CDs Blown Fuses Bloody Ears I and II from Volume Bomb Records, as well as on Volume Bomb's 7-inch comp A Fist Full of Singles. The band's self-titled full length CD is now available locally.
The group is currently working on new material for an upcoming EP and honing a dark acoustic set. You can connect with Dartgun and the Vignettes on Reverbnation and Facebook or catch their live show at one of Portland's music venues. Vive le Rock.
