Doug Stokes / Bio

I'm proud to be from Muscle Shoals, AL, a rural river town at the crossroads of folk, country, and rhythm and blues. It's banks are the birthplace of the likes of Helen Keller, W.C. Handy -Father of The Blues, and Sam Phillips - Father of Rock-N-Roll. For decades the area has been an underground hot-house of musical talent - The Drive-by Truckers, The Civil Wars, and Jason Isabelle, and Alabama Shakes to name a few more recent. In 1998, I got my start as a demo singer at Rick Hall's Fame studios. My songwriting savvy soon snagged my first exclusive publishing deal, and with that - adoption into the Muscle Shoals hit music tradition.
2010-2014 I got an amazing opportunity to front one of my favorite country bands - Shenandoah. It was such a pleasure singing those songs and working with those guys. I stepped aside to welcome the return of the amazing Marty Raybon, who rejoined the group after 15 years - Yes, I got to hold the Grammy.
I write, co-write, perform, produce, and develop new talent. Hear my latest work with Johnson & Stokes. Online at www.JohnsonandStokes.com, as well as iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Mp3, etc.
