No matter what one calls it: happenstance, destiny, fate or sheer coincidence, sometimes events conspire to create something truly unique. Such is it with the music of Mind Drive, an uncanny collaboration!
Formed in January of 2013, Mind Drive’s sound can best be described as Motor City Americana, new roots music with a decidedly, blue collar grit that infuses the lyrics, melodies and rhythms. This is the product of the slew of influences that each member has brought to the band: classic rock, folk rock, pop, blues, and bluegrass just to name a few.
The music of Mind Drive is laden with expertly delivered harmonies, compelling leads, rhythms and lyrics that tell the tales of ordinary folks as they navigate this life in all its majesty and tragedy.
Mind Drive is:
Bill Arnold: Dobro, Lap Steel, Acoustic Guitar & Vocals
Andy David: Acoustic / Electric Guitars & Vocals
Rick Lewis: Drums, Percussion & Vocals
Les Miller: Acoustic / Electric / Stand-up Basses & Vocals
Jeff Nelson: Acoustic / Electric Guitars, Mandolin & Vocals
Mind Drive’s songwriting efforts are spearheaded by Jeff & Bill; although, each of the members are encouraged to join in the effort, either during the crafting process or during the arrangement process, contributing to the unique Mind Drive sound.
The band also features multiple instrumentation arrangements, from a subtle, quieter tone well suited to small pubs, breweries and coffee houses utilizing acoustic instruments and a percussive kit instead of a traditional drum kit to a full blown arrangement featuring electrified strings and a fusion-styled drum kit. This makes Mind Drive both nimble and versatile, a band that can work in very diverse settings.
The electric arrangement can be heard on the self-titled, self-produced EP released in July of 2013. Future recordings will feature the acoustic-styled arrangement and some stuff in between to be sure.
In the meantime, Mind Drive will continue to churn out new tunes, seek new performance venues and look to share their sound with a greater audience! Give these guys a listen; come see a show! They’ll work hard to entertain you and your crowd with great enthusiasm.
