The Grand Haven group formed together in early spring 2012. Drummer Chris (Skinny) Sobota and guitarist/songwriter Matt (Professor) Spofford had been working together for some time, refining old songs Matt had written for previous projects and forging new material. With a need to diversify the sound and broaden songwriting potential, the two brought other guitarist/songwriter Dustin (Dimples) Mason on board after successfully collaborating with Matt at open mics around town.
Room Full of Elephants spent its first two years focused on developing its original sound and performed a handful of times as a three piece. A select few talented bass players worked with the band throughout that time, but the right fit was not easy to find.
Shortly after finishing their first studio production, RFE yet again found themselves in need of the low end to complete the full sound of their songwriting. Following an effective and complimentary recording experience, they offered the job to sound engineer Robert (Bleu) Vandyke. With an eager response to work with the songwriting trio, Bleu managed to learn 18 original songs in his first 2 months.
Playing anywhere from large outdoor concerts to small acoustic breweries, Room Full of Elephants compliments a variety of venues with its wide array of songwriting flexibility. Hints of Blues and Ska blended with the passion of Rock n' Roll and tempered with accents of harmonious Folk music ensure the unique sound of RFE will provide a listening experience that most anyone can groove to.
