Brooklyn, New York based Paul Josephs is a rock/jam band with sophistication and raw soul. Their debut album, Strong World, is due out sometime this summer.
Paul Josephs grew up on Manhattan's Upper West Side when it was filled with artists, prostitutes and underground weed shops -- pre-Guiliani. He's the product of a hard working New York Jewish mother and an estranged Midwestern hippie/outcast father. After a rocky childhood obsessed with skateboarding, sports and mischief, Josephs began his professional music career at 16 playing with some of the leading lights of the New York blues scene including Poppa Chubby and Moose and The Bullet Proof Blues Band. Once discovering guitar and songwriting, Josephs found an outlet to express the combination of tumult, love and the experience of a wild New York that's his palate for his songwriting.
"I see music as medicine," says Josephs. "It's sonic chemistry. I make music with the intention of being in service to the greater spirit of music and soul. I take pure inspiration and the great music that's come before and let it all resonate within my personal experience. That's the alchemy for universal communication. If you're true to yourself and honor the common experience of music at the same time, that's when someone may find the music healing or uplifting. That's what I aim to do."
Paul Josephs has performed at many notable clubs, colleges and private events in New York City including The Blue Note, Town Hall, Joe's Pub, Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall, The Red Hook Waterfront Arts Festival, Southpaw, Galapagos, and Poly Prep High School. In Philadelphia they have played at Theatre of the Living Arts and Tin Angel, and in Connecticut at Wesleyan University. Paul Josephs tours with his backing band as a duo, trio, quartet and septet as well as performing as a solo artist.
3 tracks from 'Strong World' can be streamed from the band website at www.metrosonicsmusic.com.
"Psychedelic blue-eyed soul that rocks." --Tony Maimone (bassist/producer/engineer with Bob Mould, They Might Be Giants and Ani DiFranco)
"Soulful and smart music, bouncing along on bluesy guitar and a rock/reggae beat, Strong World would be at home in any record collection that stretches from Santana to the Clash to Arcade Fire. Paul Josephs and MetroSonics pack a small world into each tune." -- Chris Smith, New York Magazine
Paul Josephs is on the road with purpose, building on a continually growing fan base and leaving a trail of raised spirits in their wake.
