Born in Huntsville, Alabama just a short drive from Nashville, Benny picked up his first guitar at 12 years old and immediately knew that it would always be a major part of his life. His early bands were heavily influenced by the rock and folk of the ‘60s and being comprised of teenagers were limited to performing at sock hops and private parties. Marriage and parenthood took priority over a music career but after a lengthy delay, Benny rejoined some of his previous bandmates and began performing at local nightclubs. When his career took a turn which required extended travel, Benny turned to solo gigs and songwriting to satisfy his musical urges, inspired by great lyricists like John Prine and Harry Chapin. Benny’s travels gave him the opportunity to perform across the United States in including clubs at San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf and Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Benny’s lyrics come straight from the heart and will either make you laugh or cry, as they range from tear-jerking serious to belly-laugh comical. Although his main ambition is to hear one of his songs recorded by a “big star”, he is currently working on his first CD which he hopes to release soon.
