It’s been a funky, cockamamie ride to this point, but Zac Hryciak & The Jungle Beat (ZHJB) are totally ready to shred… hard. Our beginnings began deep in the jungles of Chester, Virginia, where few survive. Zac Hryciak and Jessika Blanks met after the latter’s gnarly performance at a high school stand-up talent show, and they soon began collaborating on some of Zacky D’s fresh tracks. After a string of member additions and changes, as well as some initial recordings, the JB at last settled on a drummer, Lee Spratley, who Jessika met in VCU’s music department and with whom she was in cahoots.
Anywho, more bandmates cycled through and a breakup was on the table. But after a year-long hiatus, The Jungle Beat bounced back despite disputes and brought in SeanTWilliams, a beard-bound Chester native who may or may not be writing this very ish you’re reading. Forward a year, we welcomed in a long-time fan as a much needed, much appreciated manager and moral support. Now here we are doing what some might call music.
Some artists that we have been compared to include Paul Simon, Grizzly Bear, The Beach Boys, Dirty Projectors, as well as genre labels of “Afro-beat” or “Chamber Pop.”
