Release the Kid is bringing a taste of homegrown rock to the Nashville area. This group of focused musicians has an incessant hunger and heart for making quality music. Front man and songwriter Greg Pruitt decided to form the project, dedicated to exploring his collection of material past and present. Pruitt continued writing and developing an original set with rhythm player and advocate of Texas country music, Matt Stoneback. The songs were really given life when Drummer Trent Harmon, veteran of the Regional music scene, joined. With his experience opening for acts like the Ramones and the Smithereens, Harmon brings a level of professionalism and talent to the group. The band defined their sound with the addition of bassist Jason Sullivan and electric guitar wiz Sam Madewell.
Release the Kid’s tonal recipe derives from a mix of rock reminiscent of the early 90’s alternative scene with an Americana twist. Pruitt’s vocals bring naturally sweeping melodies with a dash of Mississippi Soul. The band has never made it their agenda to stay within any one specific genre. Their motto is, “If it sounds good, it stays: simple as that.”
With an authentic style as familiar as your next door neighbor, they could be seen as a flag bearer for the common man. Look for Release the Kid to continue giving their listeners more than a ear full of the straight forward rock music they’ve been missing.
