MOFONGO is a traditional Puerto Rican recipe that blends both West African & Spaniard cooking. It is a fitting name for a band that aspire to mix its love for 1960's era New York boogaloo, with native jibaro folk sounds of Puerto Rico and world rock. Brothers Damian & Brian Rivera founded the band as an opportunity to get in touch with their native island roots, and with the addition of Danelly Alexis' sultry yet raw vocals, the guys knew they were on to something big.
The California based band draw inspiration from the great latin acts of yesteryear such as Cortijo y Su Combo, Hector Lavoe, Fania All-Stars, Tito Puentes, Buena Vista Social Club, but keep their sonic experiment modern in the same vein as contemporary bands like Buyepongo, La Santa Cecilia, Quitapenas, The Boogaloo Assassins, & Las Cafeteras. The band is currently in the studio, developing their unique sound with the help of friends Mike Uribe (of FIRECAT) & Lily Celis. We invite you to download our compositions and share with friends :)
