Buckskin (formerly Buckskin Bible Revue) was born in the North End of Boise, ID in early 2005. Matt Steiner and founding fiddler,Tony Lemmon grew up together as neighbors. Due to his proximity, Steiner was inducted into the very musical Lemmon household as the bass player. Rick Shodeen (percussion) and Jay Nelson (guitar) were introduced to each other in 2003 in an outfit called Tweed. Brought together by a common musical interest, these four along with Paul Mitchell (mandolin), combined to form the band. After the first two gigs, Mitchell left for a walkabout and hasn't been heard from since.
At this time, Steiner called Mandolin/Guitar player Scott Tyler into action. Tyler and Steiner had played together with the band Farmdog several years earlier. The combined improvisational skills and fast fingers of Lemmon and Tyler along with Nelson's smooth vocals and fine songwriting created quite astir on the local scene. Gigs came quickly and easily and by early 2006, the band was playing nearly full time.
In early 2007, Nelson and Schodeen left the band to pursue other interests as did Lemmon in early 2008. It was then Kayleigh Jack (fiddle) and Rob Danner(percussion) arrived on the scene. At 21, Jack brought talent and beauty to the band. Danner, formerly a jazz/funk drummer in college, and percussionist with Frame of Mind, brought a different groove to the table. Gigs and festivals continued to become bigger and better and the audience continued to grow, but something was missing.
Playing only a few festivals in 2009, Steiner and Tyler decided to put the band on the back burner. A video posted on Facebook in the fall of 2012 would change all that. Rob Danner, Kayleigh Jack, Scott Tyler, Matt Steiner and Jay Nelson played a reunion show on the Main Stage of the 2013 McCall Winter Carnival and a surprise set at the Yatch Club later that night. The response of both the audience and the band was impressive.
Currently, Jay Nelson, Scott Tyler, Matt Steiner have been joined by original drummer Rick Shodeen and are rehearsing for upcoming shows in 2013.
