A group of friends from the Central Coast that love making music, love the feelings that music gives us, and love the people who feel it with us...
Upon his departure from the late '90's - early 2000's alt. rock band HUMMMR, Mike "Onion" Wright Brady left his Hollywood apartment with the intention of never looking back. Retreating to the central coast of California, where he would marry the love of his life, Mike found himself a working class, blue collar citizen, paying dues working as a landscaper and bartender to make ends meet. Mike and his wife had kids, and set out to begin a normal life, that wouldn't last long.
Christian James Hand, lead singer of HUMMMR continued his path towards rock-n-roll righteousness as "Onion" exited. He continued to write and perform, getting publishing and placement deals with various projects, and he eventually found himself on the other side of the console becoming a world-class record producer. Christian has gone on to produce hits for bands like Taintstick, Death Death Die, and most recently the smash hit "San Francisco" by The Mowgli's. He and Onion remained friends and he posed as one of Onion's groomsmen at his wedding.
8 years into raising children "Onion" began to question the values that were important to him and which ones he wanted to instill in his kids. He kept going back to the thought of telling his kids that they should always have the strength to follow their passions- yet as a passionate musician, he himself had given up following his own. Realizing the hypocrisy, he set out to again play music.
Over the next 12 months Mike "Onion" wrote and demo'd over 170 songs. After playing every last one of them for Christian, the 2 settled on the 12 tracks that would become their first record together in 10 years.
The project started in 2010 as The Connection, and has since been re-named, The Small Kicks. The duo is joined by a number of accomplished artists including composer and lead guitarist Todd Andrew, rhythm guitarist Billy Thompson, guitarist, Dustin Bellew, pianist and composer Kenny Ulrich, and previously Matt DiPanni of The Mowgli's on bass. Matt has taken a leave from the band as he is touring with The Mowgli's. Replacing Matt is Jason Slawson. Other notable musicians that are part of The Small Kicks family include Andy Tubman and Patrick O'Connor.
Today, The Small Kicks continue to make new music and play shows throughout California.
