The Phantom Dream has always stood at a stylistic crossroads since its inception. Its unique Rock sound has an enigmatic quality—a fusion of contrasts and extremes—that make it difficult to place in a genre. Always immediate and bursting with energy, the band bridges gaps between Progressive Rock, Punk, Metal and Alternative Rock, all while retaining an ear for catchy hooks and bombastic choruses. Led by a driving, two-guitar attack reminiscent of early 2000’s Post-Hardcore, the group is backed by a thundering and technical rhythm section and topped by soaring vocals that bend towards whatever style is currently on the table.
After the dissolution of La Crosse Alt. Metal act, A Dive to Depths Below, its instrumentalists, Jack Kistler, James Hill, and Jake Mayer, decided to regroup around guitarist Dylan Frey, who had been trying his hand as a frontman and lead singer. The group has since placed second in the Myrick Park fundraiser at the Eagles Club and has headlined successful shows at numerous La Crosse venues including The Cavalier Theater, JB’s Speakeasy and the Popcorn Tavern.
For over a year they have been hard at work recording their debut album with Jesse Wolf of Groundbreaking Sound Studios, right at home in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Entitled "XIII Charms for Good Luck", the album is a sprawling, genre-busting epic that clocks in at a whopping seventy-two minutes in length. Moving steadily from heavy to soft, dark to light, classic to modern, and stopping for all manner of stylistic breaks in between, it is a true sonic shapeshifter years in the making, and The Phantom Dream is proud to announce that its release is just over the horizon. You can find demo versions of several of its tracks here on Reverbnation, with more news to come. Stay tuned!
