Backwards Seven is an original rock band from Denison, Texas. Chris Hancock (guitarist/vocalist), Austin Ingram (Bass), and James Jefferson (drummer) came together as Backwards Seven in March of 2013.
Chris Hancock began his music career playing the bass at the age of 16 and has been playing the guitar for the past five years. Chris is also a songwriter in which life experiences contributes to the lyrics sung by Backwards Seven. Chris has played with the bands Auto Prime and Junkie Whisperer. Chris’s passion for music and live shows has inspired him to be a great songwriter/musician to please listening audiences.
Austin Ingram awed his parents when he picked up the drum sticks and began to play Pantera’s “Respect” without having any instruction. He surprised many more when he began playing guitar/bass as well. Austin played his first show in Deep Ellum at the age of 15 with the band Junkie Whisperer.
James Jefferson at the age of 14 (after seeing Metallica in concert for the first time) knew that he wanted to pursue music in a band as a drummer. Soon after he got his first set of drums and absolutely drove his parents crazy with noise and lack of coordination. He finally learned how to keep a beat at the age of 16 and was approached by a high school buddy about joining his band. James agreed and that was the beginning of moderate popularity for James (seeing how he was skinny, funny looking, and sucked at sports) girls actually said “hello” to him in the halls. “Yea I’m the shit” he said. After that band broke up he went on to play for a band in Dallas called Minus Four, his first original band. After his journey ended with Minus Four he joined 8th Sphere releasing a six song demo then played a few gigs and even had a roady. A 16 year old kid named Chris whom little to James’ knowledge would be the bass player for James next band Auto Prime. After Auto Prime disbanded James took a break from music and joined the work force and became a wage slave. A few years later James lost his job cleaning manure bags and had to find other means to get beer money. A week or two later he gets a call from former Auto Prime band mate Chris and was asked to play drums for his new band (after Chris’s band Junkie Whisperer had disbanded) and James agreed.
James, Chris, and Austin teamed up together and began writing kick ass music for this monster called Backwards Seven. Shortly after that the three were gigging in no time and haven’t looked back.
