I realise these biographies are normally written in third person but I just couldn’t bring myself to do that. I’m a simple straight forward person and writing about myself is difficult enough without the attempt of making it sound like someone else was writing it.
I was born the oldest of two brothers in Taylors, SC. My Dad is a life long steel worker whose family were simple mill worker/farmers from Western North Carolina between Canton and Asheville, and my Mom and her family are Irish Catholics from Charleston, SC. I grew up in South Carolina with one foot in the dark corner mountains and the other on the Holy City coast.
Way back when public schools had music classes I learned to play the Violin. Later of course wanting a sexier instrument I learned to play the guitar and soon after any instrument available including keyboards, bass, mandolin, banjo, and harmonica. At the age of about 14 I began playing music in garage bands and then at local pool halls, country dives, and biker bars. My earliest influences were The Beatles, and Prince but I always had an affinity for the heavy darker styles of music. More recently, I discovered a great passion for Americana, Folk, and Bluegrass those raw gritty real-life working-class sounds satisfy my maturing thirst for the heavier and darker culture.
These days you can find me playing around the Clock Tower in Simpsonville at places like Carolina Olive Oil and The Ice Cream Station. There was a time when I hoped I would be the next big thing but now I‘m happy playing for anyone that will listen and if it pays for my strings and gas it’s icing on the cake.
