"As a natural artist i try to stick wit da basics and create out of pure passion, rather it be a painting, a tattoo or my music."
born in Porto Prince, Haiti and raised in Jacksonville Fl, Papi has always had a love for music although fine art was his true hobby and skill. At age 9, took on a liking and skill for writing which took a poetic turn at age 14. "Writing was easy as hell (lol). I could bust out a poem like it was nothin' but i still found no use for it. Drawing was all i did, on school desks, walls and on all my clothes (won best dress.. lol)"
I wouldn't be until 2010 when Papi finally caught the rap bug. While serving 3 months in Jacksonville's county jail and P Farm correctional jail he would find a new way to express his thoughts. "i was in there drawing randomly just to stay busy but that turned into drawing tattoos and my thoughts became too much to keep in my head. the other inmates would be rap and spit music they've written while in. we had debates on who was the best rapper (Lil Wayne did not win.. lol) and i would get involved a little but was still kinda just a music lover and not much of a musician my self. Had no passion to do it. I didn't wanna do it just cuz i could put a few rhymes together that aint enough."
After release he met up wit and old friend looking to record. "She asked did i know anyone wit a stu (studio) and i took her tuh my nigga Co. The tables turned when she asked me if i was gonna hop on da track. I had never written a full verse to record but i was like 'fuck it, sure' (lol)." After recording his first 16 bars it was obvious he had talent "it was soooo easy, i couldn't stop writing" He would later feature on another track that would finalize the thought of Papi being a rapper. "i was already so skilled in everything else, i just aint think i was worth perusing. Nigga had options and hip hop was not one." But then there came "dressed to empress". "MAN I KILLED DAT SHIT! (LOL) it was only an 8 bar feature but i slid on dat bitch."
Thus after two features and a day of writing, Papi was ready to record his first track "lord knows". "i was already goin through some spiritual changes but it seemed like rap was how i could vent." Now he had a problem. What genre does he fall under. "Even though i was saved i couldn't imagine me doing gospel rap.. hell naw not gone happen. i had a meeting wit God and all about it (lol). Far as i was concerned i still had too much dirt on me (too hood) to hop on a track like Kirk Franklin, that's not staying true to who i am. i wanted to be real, no gimmicks, no selling out no bullshit." his views on the industry were just was raw. "FUCK EM! aside from the fact that only the garbage gets radio play, that shit too suspect fuh a real nigga and rather they is or aint on some secret society shit i aint fuckin wit em.. too much politics i just came tuh spit."
"And that's where i stand.. music is more than genres or pop charts. music is a feel and if im going to do music, ima do what i feel. the passion of the art will speak for it's self. i'll be the realest.. AGAIN!" (winks)
