Songbird, Betty V Nisbeth, St. Maarten’s daughter of the soil, has been singing and performing since the tender age of 12, when she blew away her local church congregation with her rendition of Tomorrow by the Winans. Who knew such a powerful, sultry, soulful voice could come out of a shy scrawny little girl! From there Betty Nisbeth participated in various children’s song festivals, winning the St. Maarten’s Third Annual Children’s Song Festival 1983. She was also a member of the children’s choir The Lollipops, lead by Ambassador of Music, Ms. Anastacia Larmonie.
During the 1990’s Betty Nisbeth sung backup and lead for bands like Bad Boys, Tonka and Friends, and Phenomenon to name a few. As lead singer for Phenomenon, she had the opportunity to perform at a private yacht party hosted by Herbbie Hancock and Michael Douglas
In 2005 Betty joined the renowned international Saint Martin band Youthwaves as female lead singer. Their international audiences has grown to include Dominica, St. Kitts, Tortola, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Barths, Fr. Guyana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Marie Galant, Le Saint, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the USA. To date, Youth Waves have accomplished much, which they are very proud of. They’ve opened concerts for world renowned bands like Kassav, Tanya St. Val, Lovendere, Lucky Dube, Steel Pulse, Digital Express, 727 La Rose, Mary J. Blige, Beres Hammon, Les Aiglon, Wyclef Jean, Njie, and Shaggy just to name a few.
International events such as, Fete de la Music, France; Festival Terres de Blues, Marie Galant; Carnival Tropical de Paris, France; Antillean Feesten (Germany); the annual CTO Gala Dinner (New York); Labor Day Carnival, and the Detroit Carnival (USA), and the Heineken Regatta (St. Maarten), are just some of the organizations/events for which Youth Waves have also performed. In 2008 Betty Nisbeth recorded her first zouk solo track, a cover of Into You - sung and performed by Tamia - on their album Voices.
Since 2011, BettiV has been involved in several new and exciting projects. Collaborating closely with multi-talented, singer- songwriter, and producer Dion Gumbs, their duet single and music video We Can Smile Again, was released in May of 2012. To date, as a solo artist, BettiV has recorded her first original single "Hold On", and is presently recording her second single 'Spend Some Time'. Her album is scheduled to be released November of 2013.
