John Houston is a wanderer; both in spirit and in deed. He has found himself somewhere between the alternative rock of the 90’s, reminiscent of early Smashing Pumpkins, to this era of folk rock, similar to Pete Yorn or Ryan Adams. Much like his musical inspirations, John has wandered most of his childhood, never living in one place for too long. From the inner city of Gary, Indiana, to the Atlantic shores off Virginia’s coast; from Lake Michigan to Nashville, Tennessee, John Houston has used his natural wandering inclinations to connect with people from every background.
As a son of a Baptist preacher, John has struggled with faith and doubt his whole life, and pushes forward with passion evident in his writing and performing, to encourage his fellow man that there is hope, and we are not alone. That hope is the central theme of John’s first album “Highlights, Latenights, and Heartcries.”
Performing in large churches to the smallest, smokiest bars, John finds his home not in one or the other, but anywhere he can inspire, connect, entertain, and encourage. Whether alone with an acoustic guitar, or his full band, you will find you are home in this wanderer’s song.
