In 1995, a precocious nine year old youngster by the name of Jordan Benson was continually begging, even harassing his mother to give him a guitar for his birthday. It was all he thought about, an obsession, if you will. Luckily enough, a family friend by the name of Paul Kirk heard of Jordan’s plight and appeared with a 1987 Samick Acoustic Guitar. His joy and excitement that day were a high point in his life that he remembers to this very day!
So, with his prized guitar in hand, Jordan went to work. Many hours were spent daily honing his guitar playing skills, as well as his gifted musical ear. At the age of fourteen, Jordan was immersed in music on the radio, and he listened feverishly, devouring the many styles of music that would eventually become his own. He asked his Mom to show him some chords on the family piano, as she had once studied the instrument many years prior. Gladly, she showed him all that she could remember. That amounted to five chords, but that was all he needed.
Jordan quickly learned the basics of music and the two instruments with an innate talent that few possess, and he began to see how piano and guitar worked together to make beautiful music. Over the years, a large number of musical instruments came under his wing, as he was able to transfer his musical gift to the bass, drums, ukulele, harmonica, mandolin, and organ. And let’s not forget that Jordan’s been singing since he was a baby in the crib!
His goal as time wore on became living a life as a professional recording artist and musician. This dream began to become a reality in 2006, thanks to Samick Music Co., JT Records, and The Liberty Sound Machine in Liberty, SC. In 2007, Jordan moved to the Washington, DC area and played extensively there in nightclubs, bars, and coffee houses. In 2008 sensing a great opportunity, he moved back to South Carolina- this time to the Charleston area. It was there that he continued to pursue his musical objectives, to critical success. Jordan was the front man for the rock band “Ancient Kings”. The band toured the area extensively, creating a large local following in the process. When the band was not on the road, Jordan was lucky enough to begin performing in the Dueling Pianos concept, at a club called The Ivory Moon Piano Bar. This form of entertainment allows Jordan to capitalize on his multi-faceted musical capabilities, as well as his engaging onstage persona.
In 2011, Jordan was afforded the opportunity to move to Phoenix, AZ, and continue his musical journey. He began playing at The Shout House Dueling Piano nightclub, and at the beginning of 2012 was hired at The Big Bang Bar Dueling Piano club, where he performs currently. Stay tuned for more great music from Jordan!
