Meet Ja’Shayla. This singer/songwriter possesses the vocal ability, energy, stage presence, hard-to-define star quality and all-important “look” capable of captivating any audience. Ja’Shayla has graced some of the country’s most respected and historic stages, from the Apollo Theater in Harlem to the Fox Theatre in Detroit. Working with heavyweights such as P. Diddy, Wyclef Jean, Prince Charles Alexander and Doc Holiday has transformed the self-proclaimed “Ms Pop N B” into the multifaceted artist she is today.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, Ja’Shayla was greatly influenced by gospel music and soulful singers such as Anita Baker and Shirley Murdock. As a self-trained singer, Ja’Shayla has internalized the creative output of stars including Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Mariah Carey and Tina Marie. At the age of 7, Ja’Shayla began writing her own lyrics and melodies, and continued performing in school as well as citywide talent shows and events. Since age 13, she has been recording in studios around the country, and has mastered the art of engineering her own recording sessions.
Building her extensive resume has already been the journey of a lifetime, but Ja’Shayla says she’s just getting warmed up. She continues to electrify stages of all sizes, from performing in front of tens of thousands with R&B crooner Anthony Hamilton to leading Praise and Worship for thousands attending First Corinthians Baptist Church on Sundays. This spotlight-ready songstress has been a finalist in numerous talent events along the East Coast, including beauty pageants, talent showcases and most significantly, season three of P. Diddy’s “Making the Band” on MTV. Her videos have gained over 100,000 views, while her 2010 release – the official female response to Usher’s smash hit “Hey Daddy” entitled “Si Papi” – gained global attention within two days of its release. In 2013 Ja’Shayla hit the road to meet her fans at their doorsteps performing, taking photos and affectionately connecting with each person that jumped at the chance to meet the high-energy performer. From Boston to Chicago, Ohio to Brooklyn and everywhere in between Ja’Shayla’s East Coast/Mid-West tour proved that she has staying power and the endurance to compete with major artists in her genre. This songstress/performer marked her territory on every stage in her path, hitting hotspots like NYC’s highly respected Blue Note, the Highline Ballroom, the New York Giant’s home, Metlife Stadium in New Jersey and opening for R&B favorites 112 in Boston to name a few. In the same year after releasing her sophomore mixtape hosted by DJ Amanda Blaze at Jay Z’s 40/40 club in NYC, Ja’Shayla ranked top 10 on Reverbnation for the R&B category. Ja’Shayla was also featured in a full page article in The Bay State Banner weekly newspaper in Boston, as well as the spotlight artist in Core Magazine - an organization focused on empowering young girls. Beyond keeping up with her intense rehearsal schedule, performances, interviews, photo shoots, video shoots, volunteering and spending time with her young fans as well as recording her mixtape, Ja’Shayla wrote and released two singles on iTunes in 2013. Now with all of this under her belt and the knowledge only experience can bring, Ja’Shayla is preparing to release her first EP while taking the world by storm one stage at a time. She is currently writing and recording with multiplatinum producer Taiwan “Mr. Fingaz” Green as well as perfecting what has been dubbed “The Ja’Shayla Experience” - a live show full of explosive energy, sassy lyrics and soulful vocals.
Ja’Shayla’s music has garnered spins on major radio stations including New York City’s Hot 97 and Power 105.1 FM, Boston’s Hot 97 & 94.5 FM and Miami’s 103.5 FM. Numerous blogs and entertainment sites have dubbed her a buzz worthy artist to watch. She has been featured on heavy traffic sites like ViewHipHop.com and ForbezDVD, celebrity blogger Micah Jesse’s website and President Barack Obama’s dj better known as DJ Cassidy’s website to name a few.
Several experts have praised Ja’Shayla for her range and dynamic, expressive vocal abilities.
