Shastri 'Music' Ramjattan is a music producer and engineer born in Boston, Massachusetts, with Trinidadian and Indian backgrounds. He first started producing music in 2006, with his first placement coming in 2009 with the Dancehall single 'The Way You Wine', by Jamaican rapper Knocklife. After years of working with the Jamaican record label Bold'n'Boasy Entertainment, Shastri started working with artists in Canada. As part of the 'Blazin' Up The Scene' riddim, which was officially released in 2012, the project featured 'The Way You Wine' and also included the socially conscious 'Presha' by Canadian artist King Mee, 'Burning Up' by Trinidadian artist Jyrus Melody and 'Oh Gosh' by JUNO award winner Mikey Dangerous. This project was Shastri's first appearance on radio.
In 2012, he focused more on the music that initially got him into music production, Hip Hop. With the 'Blazin' Up The Scene' riddim behind him, he started to produce more Rap and R&B music, getting placement with some of the top rappers in his native Boston. While working on the single 'Winnin' Streak', which will be released in 2013 and features three of Boston's most recognized artists, Shastri played a major part in the construction of the single 'Bright Lights', featuring B-Bomber and New York songstress Shanalee. Remaining consistent he also released many singles on the Caribbean scene including 'My Time Fi Shine' by Canadian artist Sampaloo, 'No Joke' and 'Just Mee' by King Mee and 'These Streets' by Knocklife.
With 2012 being a good year, he looked to make 2013 a great one, staying close to his Caribbean roots. First up was the release of two singles by the Jamaican rapper Knocklife, 'Face The Fact' and 'Youths Story'. Soon after, Shastri released the Hip Hop/Reggae infused single 'Stinking Green' which would turn out to be a Jamaican anthem and the Dancehall single 'Morning Love' by the Jamaican group, Ansake. 'Morning Love' would end up getting regular rotation on the top radio stations in the Caribbean. Not to be outdone even by himself, Shastri released the single 'Love Affair' featuring Knocklife and Reggae icon and VP Records artist, Roland Burrell. The single has been on the top radio stations not only in the U.S. Jamaica & Canada, but also in the U.K. and different parts of Europe.
With 2013 already proving to be a productive year for Shastri, he released his first Soca production exclusively on one of the top Caribbean radio stations, Bacchanal Radio. The single, 'Leh We Wine Down' features Trinidadian artists Mr. Walker and Kaycel. With constant radio play and the support of major online promoters JuliansPromos, Trinnilicious4life and SocaMusic, the single is already considered one of the top releases of the Carnival season so far for 2014. Shastri plans for more Soca releases for this season, not only with artists from Trinidad & Tobago, but also from Guyana, Barbados and Anguilla.
2013 will also see the release of Shastri's highly anticipated Reggae project, the 'Lost Love' riddim. The project, which he's been working on since the end of 2011, features artists from many different countries, including Nuchie, Prince Karby, Nico Royale, Alty B, Clinton Sly, Prakz and Lady Pista, to name a few. Also releasing towards the last two quarters of the year will be the single 'Winnin' Streak', as well as another single featuring a top Boston artist, Mario Pope, who recently performed at the Apollo.
Producing music in every genre, Shastri has also mixed and mastered almost all of his own productions, proving that a music producer can also be his own best engineer.
With much to look forward to in 2013, Shastri remains focused on not only being productive, but also remaining consistent with the level he has already established for himself.
