The Ron Johnson Project is based in Jacksonville, Florida and features Ron Johnson as primary songwriter and singer. Ron plays guitar and is usually accompanied by Ron Spencer on stand up bass. The duo often welcomes other musicians to join them on stage and in the studio, allowing a free flow of creative energy from many sources to best capture the song.
Ron Johnson has been playing folk music in Jacksonville and around Florida for over a decade now and is a regular at the Florida Folk Festival, the Will McLean Festival and Barberville. He was elected to be President of the North Florida Folk Network last year and has been active in assisting other artists and songwriters in North Florida.
This year History Press has approached Ron about writing a short book entitled "A History of Folk Music In North Florida" which should be released near the end of 2014.
At the end of 2013, we say goodbye to our youngest band member, Emily Rose on the fiddle for the past five years. She is off to greener pastures in Austin, Texas and we wish her luck and success.
In 2012, after three successful recordings under their belt, the folk group "Ron & Mary" came to an end and in January 2013, Ron Johnson has ventured out as a solo performer, once more.
Ron is an LCSW in Jacksonville and is active in advocating for Mental Health issues both with children and adults. "It gives me a unique view of the world...and I think that influences my songwriting, certainly..."
