Raven Griffin & The Hellions / Bio

Raven Griffin & The Hellions formed in 2011 when Raven moved to Grand Rapids from Ann Arbor. Formerly with the Industrial duo Intransit, he took his love of folk and punk rock and formed a rag tag band of like minded individuals. Running with a various assortment of musicians who would drop in and out for shows and performances. Various guest “Hellions” included such local musicians as

Kevin Murphy (Guitars, vocals, harmonica)
Sam Kenny (Violin, trumpet, vocals)
Jesse Lovell (Backing vocals)
Charlie Cheney (Guitar)
Craig Van Otteren (Mandolin)
During the last two years they have solidified their line up with a set group of Hellions and turned their sound into what has been called both “Booze Fueled Folk Rock” and alternately “Graveyard Folk.” Blending both a humorous style with songs like “Play It Safe” and “Rhymes With Truck” as well as a dirtier folk sound largely influenced by Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt, and the beat poet generation.

Their current line up comprises members of some of Grand Rapids most popular acts. Raven having played with The Sneed Hawks, Brunclesatanskin and SwampHouse Band, Jeff Armstrong who has played with Remedy Blue, Sirocko, and The Potato Babies to name a few, and Cody Rawson of Ars Nova.

Currently playing shows in support of some great folk and punk acts in and around Grand Rapids and working on their first E.P due out late 2016.
