John is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and singer/songwriter, with a wide range of influences from Heavy Metal to Mahler, Folk to Baroque, with a healthy dose of Blues, Classical and Jazz. John admires a wide range of artists such as Amos Lee, Bruce Springsteen, Franz Schubert, Oscar Peterson, Jon Lord, Joni Mitchell and The Beatles.
In 2011 he was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (ADD) which has affected him undetected since childhood. Although he has a PhD and has had two successful careers, he has begun to see life with a whole new perspective. He has always been a musician at heart and is making up for lost time with a new career as a composer and singer-songwriter. His music is influenced by blues, folk, classical and rock and his lyrics are sometimes whimsical, sometimes provocative and often idiosyncratic. John has collaborated with a number of artists in Canada, USA, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany and Australia, as vocalist, pianist, on mandolin and on cornet, and also as mix/mastering engineer. John plays locally as a blues singer and guitarist. He is a regular top ten artist for the all-genres NZ chart on ReverbNation. He has contracts with industry, such as Music of the Sea and Music Blvd Group.
Given his eclectic tastes and creativity, John finds it impossible to confine himself to a particular instrument or genre, so anyone following his music will be continually surprised. John has one full-length album "Classiques Pour Le Monde", available as download and on CD. There are also five EPs, the folk oriented “There's Only Whisky”, the blues-based “The Blues Plays You”, the classical "Trio No. 1 for Piano, Clarinet & Cello" and two jazz albums “Firebird Boogie” and "Minor Groove for Bass & Piano". So whether you are a teenager disillusioned with commercial pop culture, a jaded baby-boomer, or just someone looking for new music, give his compositions a listen.
