John and Dave met several years ago while working at the same Arlington, VA-based technology consulting firm. They became part of a band that played at private parties initially, then played a few gigs at local hot spots (e.g., Rhodeside Grill in Arlington). Dave played bass and John was the rhythm guitarist. After the band folded, Dave approached John about playing and singing classic tunes in an “acoustic duo” format. They began to practice the classic acoustic works of The Eagles, James Taylor, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, etc., while also developing unique acoustic renditions of songs by Steve Miller, John Waite, and Bad Company. In December 2007, John and Dave made their debut performance at Open Mic Night (Wednesdays) at the Iota Club & Café in Arlington, VA. They received very positive feedback and subsequently played there regularly during 2008.
Subsequently John and Dave began to add original music to their set list, including the songs that would make up their debut CD, "Finally Catching On". The response to the new music was extremely enthusiastic. As a result, John and Dave proceeded to made studio recordings, using full band arrangements. Chris Murphy produced and engineered the tracks. Pete Ragusa, Johnny Castle, and Paul Bell (all from the Nighthawks) created the rhythm and guitar tracks, with John performing acoustic guitar parts on each song. Jon Carroll (Starland Vocal Band, Mary Chapin Carpenter) added keys to each track, and Eddie Hartness (Eddie From Ohio) contributed percussion. Dave added his lead vocals, and John added harmonies.
With the completion of the "Finally Catching On" album, John and Dave are hard at work on eighteen new tracks. Stay tuned for more from Eureka Moment!
